I made a cryptic post the other day, new rig in the house!! I opted to get the ‘Edgewood Package’ which included a case, internal ATU, and all the accessories. Anyone who knows me well enough knows that I am a huge proponent of built in auto tuners. Having less gear to lug out, hook up, and require connectivity for the better. Most all small form factor QRP rigs do not have an ATU, but Elecraft rigs do. Good thinking Elecraft!
Very excited to simplify future SOTA activations… but also interested in a zero setup opportunity to work HF. Pumped to give this radio a try and learn how it works best. The whip antenna is meant for 20-15m operation, but I’d like to have a 40-15m option. I emailed K6RUN, I saw a loading coil on his radio in some photos. He linked me to a loading coil designed by Adam K6ARK.

I printed that out and had the remaining parts necessary to build it… success!
Need to test on 40m and consider what radial length would be appropriate. Adam’s notes say no radial required, but that it’s way less efficient that way.
What length radial would you use?
