Mark K3MGM decided to tag along for this activation as a spectator. I was happy to have his company along for what is a short, but steep hike up past the Wisdom Tree and on to the activation zone for Cahuenga Peak. I had heard there was a large SOTA related camp out happening in Big Bear this weekend and that they had planned to operate many modes on 2m, FM, SSB, and CW.
I took my inherited ICOM IC-705 out with me to run what would be my first CW activation, on 2m and 40m. I was so nervous, but once I got over the initial stage fright, it was a mighty fine activation. I hoped to hear more 2m CW activity but managed to work 1 station there. and the rest were on 40m.
